Community Service and Social Action Student Organizations

The following are a current offering of NSU undergraduate student organizations that focus on community service and social action. Click here to find out more information on student organization events and information about joining one of these organizations.

Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed national service fraternity who devote themselves to leadership, friendship, and service in all that we do. Members participate in community service of all kinds, on and off campus, and provide members with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and service opportunities through service to the nation, service to the community, service to the campus, and service to the members of the Fraternity.

Cozy Corners is a student organization that dedicated to giving children a great homecoming from the hospital, whether it be they might be fighting a terrible disease by redecorating their room as a surprise. Through fundraising and donations, members of this organization are able to give kids a brand new bedroom.

Locks for Cause is a student organization that raises cancer awareness and holds yearly events where people can receive a free haircut and all the ponytails collected will be donated to a charitable organization that makes wigs for children. Furthermore Locks for Cause provides opportunities to volunteer in hospitals and the Broward County. The organization also provide network with other students and members in the medical field as well as participate and volunteer at cancer walks.

Make A Meal is a student organization for students to try and stop world hunger as well as the water crisis that is happening in the world currently. To make these dreams a reality, the organization conjoins the efforts of Stop Hunger Now, Blood: Water Mission, and Broward Outreach.

The mission of MEDLIFE is to help families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives. Patients did not choose to be poor, but they have chosen to strive toward a better life; MEDLIFE stands beside them in this pursuit. MEDLIFE aims to achieve this goal by partnering with motivated individuals in poor communities working to improve their access to MEDs: Medicine, Education and community Development. MEDLIFE believes access to quality healthcare is a basic human right. To this end, members commit their time, resources, knowledge and hope to bring Medicine, Education and Development to Low Income Families Everywhere.

Operation Smile provides free cleft lip and cleft palate repair surgery for children born all over the world. Operation Smile is an international medical humanitarian organization dedicated to raising awareness of this life-threatening issue and providing lasting solutions that will allow children to be healed, regardless of financial standing, well into the future. Operation Smile provides surgeries for as little as 240 dollars and they last approximately 45 minutes.

ROTARACT at NSU is a University based community service organization under the Rotary International umbrella at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).The goals of this organization are: Community Service, Professional Leadership Development, Team Work, and Networking. Re-established on the main campus in Winter 2008, ROTARACT at NSU has been very active in the local and global community. Like many ROTARACT clubs, ROTARACT at NSU receives support and sponsorship for its projects and activities from NSU and local Rotary clubs of Ft. Lauderdale South, Weston, Plantation & Davie Cooper-City. It is a part of Rotary district 6990.

Society of Mentors strives to connect with local high school students and lend a hand in overcoming daily challenges, as well as aiding in the college application process. Organization members hope to positively influence high school students by giving them the tools and knowledge to succeed academically and personally, both now and in the future.
