About Facilities Management

To assist the academic endeavor, it is the goal of Facilities Management to make our buildings and grounds attractive, clean, safe, and energy efficient. Our goal is to provide exceptional service and maintain the campus and facilities at the high standard that is exemplified by the Nova Southeastern University tradition of excellence.

In addition to all the day-to-day requirements of operating a University, the department operates and maintains the University's major utility systems such as electrical, lighting, HVAC, all air conditioner temperature controls, chilled water plant, and water systems. Other support organizations of the department include:

  • Renovations and Construction
  • Energy Management
  • Recycling
  • University Operations
  • Public Safety
  • Access Controls
  • Transportation and Parking

While every effort is made to accomplish work in a timely manner, there are occasions when work must be deferred due to the availability of manpower or funding. When a request must be deferred, the requesting department will be notified of the reasons for the delay. The understanding of these delays is appreciated.

Concerns About Customer Service: There may be times when the quality of service provided by our department is not up to your expectations. If this should occur, we encourage you to contact Daniel J. Alfonso, Vice President for Facilities Management, at (954) 262-8835 or Maria Lemme, Director of Quality Assurance, Special Events and Facilities Leasing, at (954) 262-8940. All concerns will be investigated and we will provide a reply to the requester as part of our Customer Response. Should you have positive comments about the services provided, we would welcome these comments and pass them on to the appropriate individuals involved.

Requests for new construction, renovation, equipment installations, or change of space usage must be submitted in writing to Facilities Management. The request must have the approval of the Academic Dean and Departmental Chair or Director. A preliminary cost estimate will be provided to determine its economic feasibility prior to the securing of proper funding.

It is essential that no changes or additions be made to any campus structure or utility system without the approval of Facilities Management. We recommend you work through your Building Representative for routine services. All buildings have a Physical Plant Point of Contact who is the liaison between the department(s) and Physical Plant.
