Prescription Pharmacy Benefits

Prescription Pharmacy Benefits accompany your Medical Insurance election but are administered separately by OptumRx. Be sure to bring your OptumRx card when going to a new pharmacy, prescription benefits cannot be verified with your BlueCross BlueShield card. 

If you are covered under an NSU medical insurance plan you can fill your preferred generic prescriptions at the NSU Clinic Pharmacy at no cost! The NSU Clinic Pharmacy is located at 3200 S. Employees and their family members covered under an ICUBA medical insurance plan also have access to the ICUBAcares Pharmacist Advocate at no cost!  The ICUBAcares Pharmacist can help with prior authorizations, step therapy, and much more. Prescription Benefits Insurance from OptumRx will be updated at the close of the business day following your new hire enrollment or the approval of the life event by the Office of Human Resources.

Additional Pharmacy Benefits

Tobacco Cessation

Tobacco cessation medications are covered—up to two cycles each year— $0 copay when you participate in coaching or counseling options through local Area Health Education Centers, BCBS telephonic coaching or Resources for Living counseling.

 

Free Over the Counter Items and Diabetic Supplies

With a prescription from your provider you can receive FREE prescribed diabetic supplies including meters, lancing devices, lancets, test strips, control solution, needles, and syringes. Other items include prescribed aspirin for adults, prescribed generic folic acid, and generic prenatal vitamins for pregnancy. Simply take the prescription to the pharmacy counter and your local pharmacist can assist you.

 Example: A life event approved on Friday will be updated with OptumRx before the end of the following Monday and your benefit election will be active in their system on Tuesday morning (actual effective dates of coverage are based on the life event documentation submitted).
