How-To's and Tips

  • Access the calendar by signing in to the PowerBI tool using your NSU username and password. The guided tour pop up will only display the first time you log in.
  • By default, you will be presented with the current year academic calendar for the entire university in the upper section and associated administrative dates on the bottom.
  • Use the filters on top by clicking on the down arrows to display specific data only, such as your college's dates (see red arrow).
  • Filter by academic year, college, term, part of term name, or part of term code. It is strongly recommended to filter by college and academic year, as rows can appear blank if too much data is being queried at one time.
  • To select more than one item within a drop down list, hold down your Control key (Ctrl) when making your selection.

Scroll both vertically and horizontally (see blue arrows).

  • Hover your mouse over a timeline bar (colorful boxes) more details display.

  • Red lines under the timeline bars indicate that the part of term has a drop/add period. Hover over the line to view the drop/add dates.

  • Click on a timeline bar or other data elements (e.g., part of term names, administrative dates) for a responsive display of the data associated with the particular item selected.

Note:

Note that the clicked timeline bar is highlighted with brighter font and that the administrative dates displayed on the bottom are the ones associated with the clicked timeline bar.

Beware that the color scheme may change. In other words, the Fall 2025 timeline bar may be green one day and purple the next time you log in.

  • To view the grading calendar, select the corresponding tab from the bottom.

  • Exporting Data: Each visual (academic calendar, administrative dates, and grading calendar) can be separately exported to Excel.
  • Navigate to the upper right corner of the gray visual and additional icons for "focus mode" and "more options" will appear.  Select the "more options" ellipses (three dots) and select "Export Data."
  • Another window will pop up. Academic and grading calendars only allow export of summarized data, however, you can select a few options for file format.

  • Blank Rows/Capacity Restriction: In cases in which there is more data to display than the system can handle, you may encounter blank rows, and the letter "i" will display in the upper right corner. If this happens, simply filter the page until the "I" disappears.

  • Earliest and Latest dates: Some of the administrative dates that display as "earliest" or "latest" may be slightly different from your particular program's dates. To view exact dates associated with a specific term, use the filters or click on the appropriate timeline bar.

  • Reset: To reset the calendar or remove filters, click on the eraser tool that will appear when you hover next to the filter names (Academic Year, College, Term, etc.)

  • Asterisk: If you notice an asterisk, this indicates that the program starts with a summer header.

  • Spring Break: Spring break dates are reflected within the term in both the academic calendar and the administrative dates.
