Dr. Robert Smith Appointed NSU’s Vice President for Research and Economic Development
Robert P. Smith, Ph.D., has been appointed vice president for research and economic development at NSU. An experienced research enterprise builder, entrepreneurial academic leader, and federally funded scientist, Dr. Smith brings expertise in research administration, commercialization, and external partnerships. With a demonstrated record of strengthening research infrastructure, he will lead efforts to expand and advance NSU’s research initiatives.
Dr. Andres Pinto to Head NSU’s Dental Medicine Programs
Internationally recognized scholar and researcher Dr. Andres Pinto, D.D.S., D.M.D., M.P.H., M.S.C.E., MBA, will join NSU as the dean of the College of Dental Medicine and director of oral health integration. With deep expertise in healthcare administration from his previous role at Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Pinto brings world-class leadership to the next chapter of NSU’s dental medicine programs.
NSU Research Leader Joins Business, Civic Leaders at Broward Forward Roundtable
At the Broward Forward roundtable hosted by the South Florida Business Journal and Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, NSU interim Assistant Vice President for Research Robert P. Smith highlighted how NSU prepares graduates to fill Broward County’s high-demand roles, particularly in healthcare and ocean science.
Joining business and civic leaders from across the county, he discussed how partnerships between academia and industry can keep the region's workforce ready for the future.
The Practice of Transformational Leadership
NSU President Emeritus George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., shares lessons from six decades of leadership in his new book, Keep Your Aim Above Your Reach: The Practice of Transformational Leadership. Part memoir and part leadership guide, the book explores leading with purpose, integrity and service. All net proceeds from book sales will benefit student scholarships and research at NSU.
