To assist students in identifying reputable private lenders, NSU has established Preferred Lender Lists for the 2026-27 academic year.  The lenders on NSU's lists have undergone a rigorous vetting process following federal guidelines to ensure NSU students have access to lenders offering competitive interest rates, repayment terms, and other borrower benefits. Click here to learn more about how NSU selected the lenders on these lists, including the criteria and method used.

Federal Direct Loan Availability

NSU encourages students and families to maximize their federal loan eligibility before utilizing private student loans to fund their education. Federal loans may offer benefits such as an income-driven repayment plan, fixed and often lower interest rates, and options for deferment or forbearance during financial hardship.  You can apply for federal loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Continuing graduate students who qualify for the legacy provision under the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, formerly referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and parents of undergraduate students may also be eligible for a PLUS loan. The Right to Choose Any Lender

NSU's Preferred Lender Lists serve as a resource for students and families who wish to explore private lender options. Students are not required to use a lender from the preferred lender lists. NSU is required to certify loans from any eligible lender you select and will not deny, delay, or otherwise restrict certification based on your choice of a lender not listed on NSU's preferred lender lists.  (For a list of lenders that have previously provided private education loans to NSU students, please refer to our historical lender list.
