Frequently Asked Questions

Scholarship Universe matches newly admitted and current students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels with institutional scholarships offered by various colleges and departments as well as thousands of external scholarships offered by local, state, or national organizations. With Scholarship Universe students can rest assured that they are applying for legitimate opportunities. NSU scholarships feature a building icon whereas external scholarship have a globe icon.

It's never too early or too late to search for scholarships. New opportunities are added throughout the year. It's recommended to apply early as scholarships are competitive.

Scholarships are not guaranteed. You can increase your chances by applying to as many opportunities as possible. There are no limitations on how many scholarships you can match with.

Yes! You can save your application and come back to finish it later, as long as you have not submitted it. To continue your application, go to the Applications tab in Scholarship Universe and select your application listed as “In Progress.

Yes! You may be eligible to receive more than one scholarship. However, submitting applications in Scholarship Universe does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship. Scholarship amounts vary, and scholarships may be combined with other NSU scholarships and financial aid, depending on the specific scholarship requirements and your overall financial aid eligibility.

Yes! A student may not receive aid that exceeds their Cost of Attendance (COA), which is the maximum amount of aid a student can receive each academic year.

A FAFSA is required for scholarships that have financial need as an eligibility requirement.

If you are eligible to complete the FAFSA but choose not to submit one, you may not be considered for scholarships that require demonstrated financial need. Completing the FAFSA can increase the number of scholarship opportunities for which you may be considered.

An external scholarship is a scholarship offered by an organization, foundation, company, or other source outside of Nova Southeastern University. External scholarships are not funded or awarded by NSU, but they can provide additional financial support for your education. We encourage you to explore external scholarship opportunities in addition to the scholarships available through NSU.

Scholarship Universe is a matching system that uses information already available about you such as your cumulative GPA, academic program, college, enrollment information, and other eligibility criteria to identify scholarships for which you may be eligible.

For many NSU scholarships, you do not need to complete a separate application. If you meet the scholarship criteria, Scholarship Universe may match you with the opportunity automatically, so you may not see it listed as an application you need to complete.

Some scholarships require additional information that NSU does not already have, such as leadership experience, involvement in professional organizations, or community service. These scholarships may appear in your Recommended or Applications areas and require additional action from you.

Tip: Complete as many Scholarship Universe matching questions as you can. The more information you provide, the more opportunities Scholarship Universe can identify for you.

Every student that is awarded a scholarship through Scholarship Universe will receive an email notification advising them of the name of the scholarship and the amount of the award.
