Verification Process

Nova Southeastern University is dedicated to supporting the academic success of all students. Certain life events may inhibit this process during a student's academic career. The Office of Student Disability Services can review documentation to verify absences due to temporary injuries, medical situations, or family emergencies.

Office of Student Disability Services: Medical/Absence Verification

Documentation must be date-stamped within a 30-day timeframe of the requested absence. During the week of final exams, documentation must reflect an absence within the last week. Absences will be in accordance with each academic program's absence policy.

The Office of Student Disability Services will begin the verification process once documentation has been submitted. All documentation must be validated by a treating provider and/or business. If documentation cannot be verified or has been falsified, the case will be sent to the Office of Student Conduct and Mental Health Services.

Additional University Resources

The Dean of Students is the contact for any student seeking more information regarding taking a medical leave and/or to discuss an administrative break process for the semester.  Please contact the Administrative Coordinator for Student Conduct and Mental Health Services, cbarrett1@nova.edu, to schedule a meeting with the Dean of Students.

NSU, although a secular institution, values diversity of its student body, including diversity in religious expression. NSU recognizes that the religious diversity of its students may result in potential conflicts between work-restricted religious high holidays and educational activities such as classes or scheduled examinations. NSU seeks to accommodate students with personal religious beliefs who wish to observe work-restricted religious holidays.

Students will need to review and follow the procedures outlined by the Office of Student Conduct at Nova Southeastern University, Religious Holiday Policy

Pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions protected by Title IX consist of the student’s pregnancy, childbirth, termination of pregnancy, lactation, and medical conditions related to these or recovery from these. In accordance with Title IX, students who are pregnant or have a pregnancy-related condition may receive modifications so they can participate in their academic programs. Modifications and accommodations vary depending upon the timing and duration of the student's documented medical need and on the academic program requirements.

Students will need to review and follow the procedures outlined by the Title IX office, Pregnant Parenting Students.
