Student Accommodations Process

Requests

  • It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the request process with the Office of Student Disability Services.
  • Student requesting accommodations must complete and submit a request form (Academic or Housing
  • Students must obtain appropriate documentation that establishes the need for an accommodation(s) and relates the current impact of the disability to the requested accommodation(s).

Determinations

  • Upon receipt of the appropriate documentation and the complete request form (Academic or Housing), the request will be reviewed for eligibility by the Office of Student Disabilities. Additional information or supplemental documenation may subsequently be requested if necessary. 
  • Determinations pertaining to reasonable accommodations will be made by the Office of Student Disability Services, in consultation with academic program representatives and/or other university administrators.
  • In order to ensure that reasonable accommodations can be provided in a timely manner before each semester begins.
    • Any forms and documentation should be submitted and received in the Office of Student Disability Services at least four (4) weeks prior to the commencement of classes for any given semester.
    • Students can interact with the Office of Student Disability Services through the interactive process, and requests can be reviewed at any point within the academic year.
    • All requests will be reviewed when all documentation is received.
    • Failure to abide by these guidelines may result in a delay in the evaluation of the request(s). 
  • Written notification of approved accommodations will be provided directly to the student by the Office of Student Disability Services.  Students will be provided with information on how faculty and/or staff are notified of any approved accommodations through their scheduled intake meeting and/or determination letter.

Appeals

  • If any student believes the granted accommodations provided are not sufficient or disagrees with the findings within their determination letter, they have the right to file an Appeal Petition.
