Veteran Academic Services

Services offered through the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center

  • assisting armed services members, veterans, their spouses, and their dependents by facilitating the transition into college life and supporting their ongoing academic success
  • building supportive relationships and fostering confidence
  • guiding student-veterans and their families through the transition to college and throughout their higher-education journey
  • serving as a referral point and liaison to facilitate resolution of issues impeding success while providing student-veterans and their families with empathetic listening and guidance
  • teaching student-veterans and their families to identify, support, and understand university policies and procedures

ArmyIgnited is a support program for active, reserve, and National Guard soldiers. It provides educational opportunities to all eligible, active-duty National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers. The program supports tuition assistance for classroom and distance learning. It allows soldiers to manage their education records including college classes, testing, and on-duty classes.  It also uses Army educational counselors and school representatives for support.

NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library is the main academic library at the university.  It offers traditional public library services as well, and it is open 100 hours a week and accessible 24/7 online.  Reference and instructional services are available by phone at (954) 262-4613 or by email to refdesk@nova.edu.  The library supports your academic or personal needs by offering the following:

  • Reference services: The reference department helps individuals find or obtain information. Librarians can be reached in person or by phone, email, chat, text, or by appointment.
  • Schedule a FREE one-on-one instructional session on how to use the library’s resources is available.
  • Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan: Library materials may be borrowed from other libraries and delivered to the Alvin Sherman Library, your home, office, or desktop.  This is a free service.
  • An Assistive Technology Room, located on the second floor, is equipped to support the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Free Wi-Fi and access to public computers is offered.
  • Family members residing, working, or going to school in Broward County may also obtain an Alvin Sherman Library card.

Services offered through the Office of Transfer Evaluation Services

  • Evaluation of credits from all prior regionally accredited institutions
  • Evaluation of military credits, including Joint Services Transcript (JST)/Community College of the Air Force (CCAF)
  • Acceptance of College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) examination with appropriate passing scores
  • Credit can be awarded through the Full Portfolio or Course Challenge process for life experience.

The Transfer Credit System can be used to determine how courses will transfer to NSU from previously attended institutions.

Services offered through the Tutoring and Testing Center

  • one-on-one tutoring in writing, math, and science
  • assistance in improving writing and research skills
  • math and science tutors trained to clarify questions and reinforce specific topics addressed in classes
  • individualized math and science study strategy sessions
  • administration of a variety of exams and facilitation of testing accommodations for students with documented disabilities
