University-Wide Policies for Compliance and Excellence

Welcome to the Nova Southeastern University Policy website.  University policies are a foundational component of NSU’s Compliance and Ethics Program and support the university’s commitment to ethical conduct, accountability, and institutional excellence.

NSU utilizes PolicyStat™, a centralized policy management platform that provides enhanced access, usability, and transparency.  The University Policies published in PolicyStat™ are reviewed and approved by senior university leadership and apply institution wide.

University Policies at NSU promote ethical, social, professional, and legal responsibility. These policies uphold NSU’s mission and values, protect the university and its community, and promote consistency across the institution. They establish a shared understanding of expectations, provide a framework for conducting NSU business, and clarify institutional standards of conduct.

Please note that unit-level guidance applicable to specific activities is maintained by individual colleges, departments, units, or offices and is not published in PolicyStat™.  Units may develop policies, procedures, or guidelines to address their unique operational needs, provided they do not conflict with University Policy.  For information on policies implemented by a specific college, school, division, or department, please consult the relevant unit’s website.

What Is a University Policy?

Under the NSU Policy Development, Management, and Review Policy, a University Policy is defined as an official directive that has broad applicability across the institution. To be classified as a University Policy, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Broad Scope: Governs institutional operations, academic and administrative functions, or stakeholder conduct across all of NSU.
  • Compliance-Driven: Developed to ensure consistent alignment with legal, regulatory, accreditation, or strategic institutional requirements.
  • Universal Application: Applies to faculty, staff, students, and affiliated entities alike.
  • Official Governance: Approved by senior university leadership and maintained in NSU’s centralized policy repository.

Mandatory Compliance: All new and revised University Policies must strictly comply with the NSU Policy Development, Management, and Review Policy before being issued or modified. This mandated process also establishes the specific requirements for major revisions, minor revisions, and the formal retirement of existing policies.
