Student Organization Support

Student organizations are the heart of the university and have a significant impact on the student experience at Nova Southeastern University. The Center for Student Leadership and Global Engagement is dedicated to helping them thrive and grow. Here are a few ways that Student Leadership supports student organizations:

Any student organization, society, Greek Affiliated organization, student group, or individual can request a leadership training/presentation/meeting. These sessions can be tailorable to the needs of the requestor and focus on several topics such as:

  • effective communication
  • managing conflict
  • group motivation
  • organization transition
  • knowing your audience
  • accessing the strengths of your members
  • among many others

Before the start of each academic year, the Center for Student Leadership and Global Engagement along with Campus Life and Student Engagement together host a training program for all student organization leaders. RSO training is mandatory for all student organizations.

This provides the student leaders with a time to develop leadership skills needed to effectively lead a student organization, learn more about the policies and procedures, and develop a network of other student leaders within the Inter Organization Council (IOC). 

Each August, prior to school starting, the Center for Student Leadership and Global Engagement in conjunction with the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement host Registered Student Organization (RSO) Training. The goal of the training is to provide RSO leaders with the resources to have a successful year with their organization.  For those student organizations that form after RSO training, they will work closely with staff in the Campus Life and Student Engagement for training and support for their new organization!

All RSO’s that wish to meet Gold Fin Status requirements must complete ONE of the following:

  • Service: Attend a service event hosted by the Office of Student Leadership and Global Engagement or collaborate with Student Leadership to plan your own service event for your organization members.
  • Impact: Leaders invest in leaders. Design and implement a project or event that impacts the NSU community on a larger scale.
  • Present: Hone your presentation skills by presenting at a Student Leadership program or event.

  • Service: Those organizations that choose to complete the service requirement must track their service involvement through SharkHub. Submission directions are below.
    • Things to keep in mind:
      • There is no minimum of maximum number of student organizations required to attend a service event.
      • You may only designate your service participation to one organization.
      • Each person that attended this service event will then individually log their service hours and select the organization they are apart of in order for the hours to satisfy the requirement
  • Impact: Since the nature of this event is a larger scale program. Organizations that choose to complete this requirement will work with the Campus Life and Student Engagement and Student Leadership and Civic Engagement in order to implement this event. Completion of this event will be tracked through the SLGE office, no additional submission is required.
  • Present: Those organizations that choose to present at a leadership program or event will work with the SLGE office to identity a topic, time, and placement of the event. Those interested may contact the SLGE office to participate. Completion of this event will be tracked through the SLGE office, no additional submission is required.

It's important to remember, that you must be an approved member of the student organization you wish to designate your hours to in order for you to submit your hours.

  1. Navigate to SharkHub and log in with your own NSU credentials.
  2. To submit your service experience, start by clicking your account in the upper right-hand corner with your initial.
  3. Click Service Hours, then +Add Service Hours. You will then be prompted to input the information regarding your service experience, including your one organization of choice.
  4. Each person that attended this service event will then individually log their service hours and select the organization they are a part of in order to satisfy the requirement.
  5. Be sure to have the following information ready at the time of your submission:
    1. Contact information about your community affiliate, a description of the event, the date and times, and the organization name that the event would count towards

Note: Service Hour submissions should not be reviewed by organization members. All events will be reviewed by the SLGE office and processed accordingly.

      • Organizations can utilize our office resources to help plan your event or you can use your existing contacts to plan your own service day.
