Thank a Professor Program

The idea for the Thank-a-Professor program was initially proposed by one our distinguished faculty members Emily Schmitt Lavin, Ph.D. from NSU's Halmos College of Arts and Sciences. Her spark gave rise to the creation of the program, the creation of a form, and an awareness campaign. In the two years of the initiative, many students responded to the campaign and have submitted over 4,000 Thank You messages. The response to this initiative has been overwhelming and the LEC team was heartened by the sincere and joyful thank-you messages that they reviewed.

We are distributing these messages to faculty members and University leaders to share the amazing gratitude that students expressed. We plan to provide this avenue for students each year to thank their professors and we welcome ideas about how to do this best.

Below is a small sample of some of the messages that Faculty members received.

She was one of the best professors I have ever had. She cared so much about every student's success inside the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. She always offered to give extra help on homework assignments and exam reviews. She also offered help in the future regarding career choices and said that she would always be available if we needed anything. She is so passionate about what she does and is so kind to everyone. She also truly understands what it is like to be a college student and relates to us very well. I am so thankful to have met her.

This Professor has helped me understand why I would like to become an Epidemiologist and has made learning a fun experience for all the students. He is always engaged with his students, making sure that we understand the material. I love the activities that we do together as a class on Fridays after our quiz. I always look forward to attending his class because he is the best professor that I have ever had. I love his enthusiasm and excitement he has for the class and that he cares about each of his student's well-being.

Thank you for being such a light at NSU! You made our night class fun, engaging, and meaningful. Every class you came with high energy and an attitude that showed you truly cared about us and our success both inside and outside of class. I can tell you genuinely want us to succeed and do our absolute best, which motivated me to do so. My experience in your class will continue to impact me positively!

Congratulations to all of our faculty upon their recognition and thank you to the students who found it important to provide these thank you messages.

If you have questions, concerns, or ideas about how to improve the Thank a Professor program, please feel free to email thankaprof@nova.edu.

Look for the next opportunity to thank your professors late in the Fall semester.
