Dr. Guy Harvey, Ph.D., is a world‑renowned marine artist and conservationist whose life’s work has expanded scientific understanding and inspired global stewardship of our oceans. Since his childhood spent fishing and diving with his parents along the coast of Jamaica, he has pursued a passion for the sea that spans visual storytelling, research, and advocacy, helping protect the blue planet we all depend on.

 

Harvey’s artwork—known for its vivid and scientifically accurate depictions of marine life—has become an iconic expression of ocean conservation. In parallel, he has played a significant role in advancing marine research through his longstanding partnership with Nova Southeastern University, including the establishment of the Guy Harvey Research Institute and the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center. These centers advance knowledge that informs conservation policy worldwide and provide NSU students with access to advanced labs, fieldwork, and mentorship, preparing them to become the next generation of marine scientists and conservation leaders.

 

 

Through the Guy Harvey Foundation, he extends his impact by supporting research, education, and conservation initiatives worldwide. His work reflects a commitment to ensuring future generations understand, value, and protect ocean ecosystems.

Dr. Harvey holds degrees in marine biology from the University of Aberdeen and a Ph.D. in fisheries science from the University of the West Indies. He is a member of NSU’s Entrepreneur and Business Hall of Fame and the creator of the iconic marine murals at the Don Taft University Center and the NSU-operated Marine Environmental Education Center at the Carpenter House. He also has been inducted into the IFGA Fishing Hall of Fame, the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame.
