HOODING CEREMONY GUIDELINES DOCTOR OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE (D.O.)

Hooding symbolizes a new graduate's induction into the profession by a fellow member.

Generally, a member of the faculty hoods each graduate. However, the Dr. Kiran Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is allowing family hooding for their graduates. There are specific criteria:

Eligibility for Family Hooding:

• You are receiving your Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from NSU
• Your parent is a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).

Important Notes:

• Family hooding is limited to parents only (one parent per graduate, no exceptions).
• The participating parent will not wear regalia and will be invited to join you on stage at the designated time.

Submission Deadline:

Requests for family hooding at the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine commencement ceremony must be submitted by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2025, for the ceremony on May 15, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted or considered, no exceptions.

Before submitting, please print a copy of this form for your records. Final instructions will be sent to both you and your participating parent (family hooder) approximately one week before the ceremony.
