Village Book Builder Internship

 

A village intern is a passionate volunteer who wants to not only CONNECT a meaningful service opportunity but wants to become part of the village. 

  • You will stay with a host family in the village who will teach you the local cultures and customs, and be your family abroad. Host families are handpicked and are usually leaders within the community.
  • You will work alongside the teachers at the Village Library to create a reading culture by visiting homes, teaching classes, helping out at the library, and working with local families.
  • You are encouraged to propose and lead your own projects. All ideas can be discussed with your intern counselor for coaching and guidance.

Itinerary Outline: 

  • Monday-Friday Teach classes at the school and library. Half the day is teaching math/English/reading skills. Half the day is teaching skills based on your major.
  • Saturday-Sunday: Days off to explore the community, country, etc. (discuss with Intern coordinator how this works and what guidelines must be followed. Must be in groups to travel)

Finances

  • $150 a week Plus airfare 
  • Included: Room and Board (3 meals a day.) Transportation in country to the project if not staying in the village. Daily/Weekly meetings with Intern coordinator Cultural training, class training
  • Not included: Airfare, Excursions, Guides, Travel insurance
