Shadowing is an experience where you observe a professional in a field of interest to you on the job. This experience provides you with the opportunity to see what a 'day in the life' of a professional is really like to see if it is truly a field you want to pursue.
Shadowing experiences can be very short, just one time for a few hours, or they can be much more involved, perhaps partial, or even full days, over a semester or more. These experiences are very flexible and are designed out to meet the needs and situations of both you, the student, and the professional you want to shadow.
Students at NSU can complete shadowing experiences as part of their academic programs or on their own. They also may be eligible to earn academic credit and/or ExEL units for shadowing, depending on the specifics of their circumstances.

Internships provide a way for students to 'get a taste' of what it is like to work in a particular field at a specific organization through a realtively short-term, hands-on experience. Interns get to actually complete work that professionals in their field of interest engage in, taking the knowledge they learn in the classroom and both putting it in to practice and building on it.
Internships are usually several weeks to a full semester in length, though the specifics vary. Some internships are for a limited numbers of hours per week, while others can be full-time, or nearly so.
