Tools for Success is a series of workshops designed to assist students in adapting to university life and ultimately achieving degree completion. The outcomes of the workshop series are as follows:

  • to support undergraduate student success by creating awareness of the University programs and resources;
  • to provide resources designed to encourage and sustain engagement;
  • to promote academic achievements;

Tools for Success Winter 2017WINTER 2017 WORKSHOPS

Study Math Smarter not Harder! Join the Tutoring and Testing Center for an interactive workshop that will help you take deliberate actions to improve math confidence, performance, and comprehension.

Freshmen: Preparing for Your Sophomore Year In this session you will gain an understanding of What you should know early on, Why is it important to plan in advance, and How to achieve success at NSU and beyond.

Your Career/Major: Exploring your Passion This workshop will provide tools and resources to help you as a student make an informed decision about your career. The session will be interactive and include activities that will help you understand your values and personality type and how that aligns with certain careers/industries. You will also leave with a better understanding of how to develop a strategic game plan to confirm this passion for a career or major and how to transform that passion into experiences that will assist you in reaching future career goals.

Improving Your Writing Process—Revising and Editing Students will engage in writing activities that help them develop stronger revision and editing processes

Mind and Body Meditation This interactive workshop will begin with a seated meditation, a few breathing exercises, some gentle movement as space allows, and close with self-massage to melt way stress and rejuvenate your day.

Mastering Introduction to Psychology: This workshop will prepare students for success in Introduction to Psychology using principles of learning and memory.  Information presented will be based on study techniques supported by psychological theories and research. 

Tips for Avoiding Plagiarism: From cheating on tests to plagiarizing papers, opportunities for academic dishonesty are all around us. Come learn techniques for completing your academic work while avoiding things like plagiarism and copyright infringement.

Honing Your Writing Skills: In order to be successful academic writers, you should have a thorough understanding of the writing process. This workshop will provide strategies for working through each stage.

Winning at Math: This interactive workshop will empower and promote active learning and success for students enrolled in MATH 1000, 1030, and/or 1040. You will receive guidance, gain success strategies, and learn techniques that will result in becoming a “winner at math.”

Stress Management: Become aware of different strategies to identify and manage typical stressors. You will learn how to apply a range of stress reduction techniques to your everyday life.

Test Preparation: This workshop will help you gain confidence and assurance in your test-taking abilities. You will explore test-taking strategies that include how to approach different types of tests and the actual test-taking process.

Time Management: Join the Office of Undergraduate Student Success to learn various resources to assist you in managing your time efficiently and effectively. You will develop an awareness of time management tools and techniques that are essential to success in all aspects of life.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT SUCCESS FAIR

Success FairThe Seventh Annual Student Success Fair is set for Wednesday, September 14, 2016. It is a fun and interactive university-wide event for students, faculty and staff to engage in information sharing while enjoying a fair atmosphere. Over twenty academic and student support resource offices come together in the Carl DeSantis atrium to offer give-a-ways while connecting students to helpful resources focused on student success and graduation.
