Check-in Upon Arrival

F-1 International Student Check-In

All F-1 students on initial* NSU I-20s must attend an F-1 International Student Check-In in order to have their SEVIS records registered and activated.  

F-1 International Student Check-Ins are offered 30 days prior and 20 days after the start of every fall, winter, and summer term.  Students starting during other times (Fall 2, Winter 2, etc.) will need to contact the Office of International Affairs to arrange for a check-in time.

Register for a Winter 2018 F-1 International Student Check-In

Winter 2018 check-ins are offered between January 2 and January 26, 2018.

Location: Horvitz Administration Building, Room 114B
Located inside the Welcome Center on the First Floor of the Horvitz Administration Building


  • Registration is required and space at each check-in is limited.
  • Check-Ins will start promptly at the start time listed.  Late arrivals will not be permitted.
  • Check-Ins will last the entire hour.  SEVIS registration will not be completed for students who leave early.
Please note that your SEVIS record will not be registered until you have successfully completed the F-1 check-in process.
SEVIS registration must be completed before students are able to apply for a Social Security Number or Driver's License.


Required Documents:

You must bring COPIES of all of your own documents in order to participate in the check-in. 

  • PHOTOCOPY of NSU initial I-20
    • PHOTOCOPY of all dependent F-2 initial I-20s
  • PHOTOCOPY of Passport Info Page
  • PHOTOCOPY of Current F-1 Visa
  • I-94 record printed from

 If you attend one of NSU's Regional Campuses in Florida or Puerto Rico, please contact the Center's Director or Assistant Director for Check-In instructions.


*This includes all students on initial NSU I-20s, including students who have transferred from another institution, students who are starting a new program at NSU, and students who are in the middle of their NSU program but have been issued a new initial I-20 for another reason (following a termination, leave of absence, etc.)
