The Security Corner
In November of 2012, NSU’s Office of Innovation and
Information Technology (OI
2
T) welcomed John Christly, a
new Executive Director and Information Security Officer.
John also serves as NSU’s HIPAA Security Officer.
He will be responsible for university-wide information
security at NSU, including several new initiatives to help
enhance the level of information security and protect the
systems and data at NSU.
John is an experienced IT and security professional
who has worked with many organizations to implement
innovative solutions and strategies. He has over 20 years
of industry experience which has included computer
security and forensics, internal investigations, design,
management, and auditing of corporate networks, project
management, and custom software development. He has
a broad business of knowledge having worked in County
Government, Software Development, Telecommunications,
and Health Care industries.
John is a true “out of the box” thinker who finds unique
ways to solve complex IT and business problems. He has
a proven history of building teams, creating relationships,
increasing revenue, and being a trusted resource that can
be relied upon.
Most recently, he was the Director of Corporate Analysis
and Chief Security Officer for eTERA Consulting, a firm
based in Washington DC that offered innovative solutions
to help Fortune 1000 and Am Law 100 clients. He was
responsible for the national forensic program as well as
the healthcare and forensic accounting verticals.
John has previously held leadership positions for such
organizations as AvMed Health Plans, and Memorial
Healthcare Systems (which is the 5th largest healthcare
system in the U.S.), as well as IDS Telcom and The Golf
Network.
His experience includes several industry regulations
including HIPAA, HITECH, FCPA, and PCI.

Crimes Task Force (MECTF), Member of the ATAB
Computer Security Committee, and Approved Mentor
for the Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot National High
School Cyber Defense Competition.
