The NSU Active Directory Project is an initiative from the NSU Office of Innovation
and Information Technology that improves the user experience of students, faculty,
staff members and alumni. While most of the advantages of this project take place
behind the scenes, everyone accessing NSU services benefits from improved
communication tools, security, and streamlined system processes. The NSU Active
Directory Project makes services more secure and easier to access. It requires fewer
prompts to login across multiple University services, provides better communication
tools, and enhanced password management tools. Users are required to register their
account, setup security questions, and change passwords. OI

T is working with each
administrative unit and school to schedule and perform the migration to NSU Active
Directory by the end of the fiscal year. A communication plan is in place to deliver
timely information to each employee and student.
What are the Project goals?
• Consolidate existing NSU Active Directory
systems into one unified Active Directory system;
• Provide University students, faculty, staff,
adjuncts, and alumni with enhanced password
authentication;
• Improve access to applications and management
of technology resources;
• Automate network management of user data,
security, and distributed resources;
• Lay necessary groundwork towards the next-
generation system integration of Cloud services.
What are the main benefits of this Project?
Students, faculty, staff members and alumni will benefit
in many ways, both invisible (security, streamlined logins,
etc) and self-evident. Some of the more noticeable benefits
include:
• Ability to reset lost or forgotten passwords via the new
Self-Service Password Reset Tool; it will no longer
be necessary to contact the Help Desk for simple
password issues.
• Ease of employing one password to synchronize
with all major NSU resources. Instead of logging
into individual systems one at a time with multiple
passwords, secure logins should be carried over
between services.
• Wireless and mobile devices will be supported and
integrated (Active Sync).
• Improved modes of communication with each other in
numerous ways, including:
-Calendars will be more visible, available, and
easier to access;
-Email distribution lists will be easier to manage
-Instant messaging, voice communications, and
desktop videoconferencing between users
will be enhanced.
