Set in a fast-paced and high-energy environment, NSU’s Radio X is a unique non-commercial student-managed radio station that broadcasts live from 7 p.m. 3 a.m. to the tri-county area on 88.5 FM. Their newly renovated, state-of-the-art studio is housed on NSU’s main campus, on the first floor of the Rosenthal Building.
Radio X was started in August 1990 by a group of ambitious students determined to bring and official college radio station to the South Florida scene. It began as a cable-based station broadcasting solely to students residing on campus. Today Radio X reaches far beyond the boundaries of NSU, and includes Broward and portions of West Palm Beach and Dade counties. According to Arbitron, Radio X at 88.5 FM draws 1 percent of local listeners at any given time. And thanks to 24-hour Web streaming their reach now expands to other cities and countries.
Radio X is always looking for outgoing and creative students to become a part of our team. Students who think they have what it takes can apply for one of our staff positions, on air personality spots or gain hands-on experience as an intern by completing one of our applications. Applications are available online at our Web site or pick one up at our studio in Rosenthal, Room 101.
As a team member students will have an opportunity to learn how to:
- broadcast on a digital system
- become an on-air personality
- host their own weekly show
- do voiceovers
- cover media events
- attend concerts, and
- direct and produce new radio programming
In addition, our team members have a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experiences in video production and journalism through our partnership with The Current and Shark United Television.
Since its inception in August 1990, Radio X has been the voice of NSU. They provide listeners with a variety of music ranging from Alternative and Rock, House to Hip Hop, and Jazz and R&B. We highlight student-created programming, such as The Local Show, South Florida Live, Information Exchange and Campus Exposed.
