GSCIS Professor Co-Chairs and Presents at Conferences

Junping Sun, Ph.D., professor of computer science at the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, served as co-chair for the track of Database, Theory, Technology, and Applications at the 24th Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC) held March 8-12.

ACM is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, and delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. The ACM SAC conference was sponsored by ACM’s Special Interest Group on Applied Computing, and is one of the primary international forums for applied computer scientists, computer engineers and application developers to gather, interact and present their work. Sun attended and served as session chairs at the conference and has been involved with ACM SAC conferences as track-co-chairs since 2004.

Sun also presented a paper titled “Limiting Disclosure of Sensitive Attribute Values: An Active Approach” at the 2009 International Multi-Conference of Engineers and Computer Scientists (IMECS) on March 18-20. The paper proposed an active approach to counter inference queries leading to possible disclosure of sensitive attribute values in relational databases. Sun also served as chair of other sessions at the conference.
