NSU President's Report | 2020

PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2020 Despite the pandemic, research continues to serve as a foundation of our success, and the advances at NSU in the past year have been no exception as we move forward with our enhanced Vision 2020–2025 goals. In fall 2019, the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary affiliated with NSU. As such, NSU’s oceanographic researcher Mahmood Shivji, Ph.D., working in conjunction with Guy Harvey, continues to conduct research in pelagic fish conservation on open-water ocean fish, such as sharks, marlin, tuna, and other billfish. More than $4 million in multiyear grants from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will bolster research on marine creatures in the Gulf of Mexico and the life span of migratory fish in the Gulf and Atlantic Ocean. I am beyond proud of the hard work and commitment that NSU faculty and staff members demonstrated over the last six months,” said NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D. “These are stressful times for everyone, but we pulled together and continued to provide a high-quality education to our students—from preschool through graduate and professional school. And through all of this, we managed to enroll our largest undergraduate class in NSU’s history, even during the pandemic .” continuedonnextpage 3
