2023 FACT BOOK 35 n 25 ALL-AMERICANS • Women’s Swimming (9) • Men’s Swimming (8) • Women’s Tennis (4) • Men’s Golf (3) • Men’s Basketball (1) n PROGRAM ADDITIONS* Nova Southeastern University announced the addition of three athletic programs. • Men’s Lacrosse • Women’s Lacrosse • Women’s Rowing (returning) n 12 NCAA POSTSEASON APPEARANCES n SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE • Player of the Year (5) • Coach of the Year (4) • Freshman/Newcomer of the Year (3) n ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT ACADEMIC RECORDS • A 3.39 overall GPA during the spring 2022 semester extended the department’s streak to 24 consecutive semesters, with a department-wide GPA higher than 3.0 for the winter and fall semesters combined. • A total of 44 student-athletes earned perfect GPAs of 4.0. • Four programs achieved GPAs of higher than 3.5. n BASEBALL • earned the program’s second No. 1 ranking, following a 17-0 start to the season • returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time under head coach Laz Gutierrez n MEN’S BASKETBALL • earned the program’s second No. 1 ranking in the nation • carried an unbeaten streak of 31 consecutive games into the Elite Eight • became the first program to go undefeated in Sunshine State Conference play • won the program’s first-ever outright SSC Championship, winning both the regular season and tournament titles n SOFTBALL • won the first Sunshine State Conference title in program history • advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time under head coach Julie LeMaire • had 12 Sunshine State Conference players, including Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, as well as the Coach of the Year • won 38 games, the program’s highest total since 2010 n WOMEN’S SOCCER • advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 • had Luana Grabias named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year • saw three players earn All-Region honors—Grabias (forward/First-Team), Stefane Rosa (goalkeeper/ Second-Team), and Louise Matsgard (defender/ Second-Team) n WOMEN’S SWIMMING • placed 3rd at the NCAA National Championships • won four NCAA Individual National Championships—Celina Marquez, Savanna Best, Cassandra Wright, and Sasha Maslova • won the Sunshine State Conference Championship • had nine swimmers named to the CSCAA All-American Team n WOMEN’S TENNIS • advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history • ended the season ranked No. 2 in the nation • had four ITA All-Americans—the most in NCAA Division II • saw two Sharks—Fatima Bizhukova and Natalie Espinal—win the ITA Doubles Cup • represented by Bizhukova and Espinal again at the ITA National Championships 2022 CALENDAR-YEAR HIGHLIGHTS *As of fall 2022, there were 16 athletic programs at NSU. With the addition of women’s rowing, returning in the 2023–2024 academic year, and men’s and women’s lacrosse, beginning in the 2024–2025 academic year, the number of programs will increase to 19 by 2025.
