Page 23 DRESS CODE NSU University School believes that a student’s dress and appearance should contribute to a positive image of the school and the student. This will 1) ensure that the student is not subjected to hazardous and/or unsafe conditions; 2) give students an opportunity to express their individuality within a framework of good taste; and 3) contribute to minimizing distractions to other students and to classroom instruction. Students must adhere to the NSU University School dress code as follows, and all attire must be purchased from approved vendors listed on the NSU University School website: Shirts 1. All students must wear a uniform shirt. Polo and oxford shirts are available in a variety of colors and fabrics. 2. Students must be neatly and sharply attired; No excessively tight and short clothing may be worn 3. Long-tailed shirts must be tucked in. 4. Midriffs must not be visible at any time. Slacks 1. Only properly fitted uniform slacks, shorts, or skorts with the school crest may be worn. 2. Shorts 1. Only properly fitted uniform slacks, shorts, or skorts with the school crest may be worn. 2. Oversized shorts or shorts/pants worn below the waist are prohibited 3. The length of shorts may not be altered. Shorts must be at least “finger-tip length.” a. This means that when a student is standing with his or her hands at his or her side, the shorts must not be shorter than the longest fingertip. Outerwear 1. For upper body, only outerwear with the official NSU University School or NSU logo may be worn. 2. School uniform shirts must be worn under any outerwear. 3. NSU University School sweatpants may be worn to school during the time period beginning the day students return from Thanksgiving break until the day students return from Winter Break. Sweatpants must be navy NSU University School sweatpants , with the non-elastic bottoms (not NSU sweatpants). At no times may a student wear leggings, yoga pants, other tight-fitting outerwear, or any other sweatpants besides NSU University School sweatpants. Shoes 1. Athletic shoes and closed shoes of any color but with substantial soles are permitted. 2. Open-toed shoes, open-backed shoes and sandals are prohibited. Hats 1. No hats or head coverings are permitted. Other 1. Extreme hair styles will be treated as a dress code violation. Hair colors are limited to those that occur naturally. 2. A visible body piercing, other than ears, will be considered a dress code violation. Students should not have more than two earrings, per ear, during school time. 3. Exposed tattoos are prohibited. 4. Torn, tattered, cut, or frayed clothing is prohibited. 5. Sunglasses may not be worn during the school day. 6. Headphones may not be worn during class. 7. Middle and Upper School students must have their Sharkcard at all times. Spirit Days
