The event upholds part of the organization’s mission by spreading scholarly education and advancing the field of occupational therapy. The event was open to all students and focused on clini- cal practice skills with people with neurological disorders namely, spinal cord injury (SCI). Laura Register, MOT, OTR/L was the guest clinician who was selected due to her experience providing annual lectures on working with people with neurological disorders at the University of Florida (UF, her alma mater) and her expertise in train- ing health professionals (including therapists and medical doctors) in the evaluation and assessment process when using the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) classification scale of spinal injury at UF Shands. The lab portion included a full evalu- ation of the ASIA with direct interaction with attendees by having students perform manual muscle tests, assess sensory discrimination, and filling out the full ASIA form. Many students benefited from the review and lab. Due to student questions and in- trigue, the event was extended beyond its scheduled end time.
