It was founded by the Daughters of Charity in 1916 and is part of St. Vincent’s HealthCare and Ascension Health—the largest nonprofit health system in the United States as well as the largest Catholic hospital system in the United States. The hospital’s cancer program is one of the nation’s oldest and features a special multidis- ciplinary breast clinic for women where patients are able to see numerous specialists in one location during the same appointment. SVR is proud to be home to Northeast Florida’s first NAPBC (National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers) accredited breast health program. We also offer women access to the city’s only mobile mammography unit (digital). In 2010, SVR launched the Lung Cancer Institute, which offers patients who are at risk and have no symptoms access to early screening through chest X-rays and CT lung exams. SVR has long been a leader in cardiology. It’s the first hospital in the region to offer patients Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement or TAVR. The minimally invasive procedure is giving many patients who were deemed inoperable a second chance at life. SVR is also home to the Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB) Institute, which offers patients who suffer from the heart rhythm disorder access to the latest medical advances and minimally invasive treatment. SVR has been designated a chest pain-accredited facility by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. SVR is home to the city’s only dedicated open-heart recovery unit where certified cardiology nurses carefully watch over patients. St. Vincent’s Spine and Brain Institute specializes in the treatment of brain tumors, stroke, epilepsy, as well as neurological and spine disorders. The stroke program at SVR received the American Heart Association’s Silver Award in 2011. Our Gamma Knife Perfexion allows brain tumors to be removed without brain surgery. The life-saving technology is only available at St. Vincent’s in the Jacksonville market and can remove brain tumors with virtually no pain in just one visit. SVR is home to Jacksonville’s first Joint Commission-certified Orthopedic Center of Excel- lence. In addition to the Center of Excellence honor, SVR is home to one of Florida’s busiest joint replacement programs. It is first in the state for the number of knee replacements it per- forms and a top-10 performer in hip replacements. The center also offers sports medicine, general orthopedics, minimally invasive neck and back surgery, and rehabilitation. INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION CEME • PAGE 24
