Fraternity & Sorority Life Manual

23 Social Function Policy Social Functions are as follows: • Date function: A function where each member invites one guest. Attendance is limited to membership of the chapter and invited dates. It is limited to one date per member (I.e., formals, date parties, grab a date, etc.) • Mixer: A function with two organizations where only members of those organizations are allowed to attend. Attendance is limited to membership of the fraternity and sorority hosting the event. No outside guests are allowed. • Invite party: A function where the chapter members invite guests to their event. Chapters should adhere to their inter/national risk management policies for guidelines regarding invitations. Generally, no more than three times the membership of the chapter is permissible. No one other than chapter members and their guest(s) are allowed at the function. An invite party can be co-sponsored by no more than two organizations. A maximum number of two organizations may co-sponsor an invite party. When hosting a function with another chapter, the stricter of the two chapters’ risk management policies applies. This is to say, the method of alcohol distribution, compliance monitoring, distribution of invitations, and every other aspect of conducting a social event is determined by the organization with the more conservative policy. For example, if a fraternity is unable to invite more than twice their membership, the other organization must abide by the same regulation. In addition, all NSU social/event/university policies remain in effect at all times regardless of chapter risk management policies. If an event is perceived to be hosted by a fraternity/sorority, by the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office or by the general student body, then it will be considered a social event, whether it is registered or not. All guidelines apply. Guidelines for Social Events • All social functions must be registered ten (10) business days prior to the event.
