Nova Southeastern University | 29 DENTISTRY MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE Highlights • The goal of this degree program is to provide advanced training in study design and research methodology to students enrolled in one of NSU-CDM’s postdoctoral programs. • All master’s degree candidates are required to complete a core curriculum of courses, emphasis tract courses, a research study, and a research thesis. • Topics selected for research in this program may vary widely and include aspects of advanced biological science, material science, oral health epidemiology, and issues related to oral health and disease. • Graduates will have learned critical thinking and developed skills enabling pursuit of further research activities and academic careers. • Postdoctoral students enrolled in the master’s degree program are expected to concurrently fulfill the requirements for both the postdoctoral program certifica- tion and the Master of Science (M.S.) degree research program. The orthodontic and operative dentistry departments require completion of the Master of Science degree in partial fulfillment of the postgraduate certificate program gradu- ation requirements. However, postgraduate students enrolled in any of the other CDM postgraduate departments may apply and participate in the M.S. program as well. Application to the M.S. program is made through the online application web portal. Final decisions regarding a student’s participation in this master’s degree program are at the dean’s discretion. POSTDOCTORAL ANTICIPATED EXPENSES Equipment costs for each program will be equal to or less than the average for all U.S. dental schools. Did You Know? NSU-CDM residents in periodontology, postdoctoral pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics can all concurrently obtain the dentistry Master of Science degree while earning their specific program certificate. Did You Know? It is anticipated that NSU-CDM students who are accepted into the master’s degree program will complete the program requirements within two to three years.
