PREPARING FOR THE CEREMONY Use this Commencement Guide to answer fundamental questions and to help make this occasion enjoyable for you and your family. You Make Us Proud! ATTENDANCE AND ELIGIBILITY Candidates who were not invited to last year’s ceremony, but who have achieved degree conferral since, and prior to this year’s ceremony dates, are automatically invited to participate. Each college determines its participation requirements. When in doubt, check with your program office or visit its commencement website for clarification about the requirements in order to be invited. STORYTELLING Do you have a special story to tell; exciting plans after graduation; or a unique personal, academic, or business background. We want to know. SPECIAL NEEDS We encourage all candidates who need disability accommoda- tions to notify the Office of Student Disability Services by calling (954) 262-7185 at least two weeks in advance of the event. The Rick Case Arena at the Don Taft University Center (UC) provides handicap-accessible parking spaces located on each level of the public parking garage. Golf carts will be in operation before and after the ceremony to transport special-needs guests to and from the parking garage and the UC. Guests using wheelchairs can enter and exit the building through either the north or east lobby. An elevator is located directly across from the box office for convenience. All accessible seating is located on the second floor of the arena. INVITATIONS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS NSU Bookstore partners provide a wide selection of choices for invitations, announcements, class rings, frames, etc. These vendors offer graduation packages specifically tailored for the NSU Commencement candidate. For rings, announcements, certificates of thanks, and other graduation needs, visit Balfour or Herff Jones. Purchase customized diploma picture frames from the NSU Bookstore. MILITARY STOLES NSU honors our graduating veteran and military candidates with recognition of your service and dedication. The military commencement stole, compliments of George L. Hanbury II, NSU president, will be available at the Veterans Resource Center. Present your military ID, DD Form 214, VA veteran’s identification card, or driver’s license with a veteran’s designation. 3
