Commencement Event Guide 2019 | Nova Southeastern University of Florida

FORMATION OF ACADEMIC PROCESSION The academic procession, consisting of candidates, faculty members, NSU Board of Trustees members, and administrators will assemble one hour before the ceremony begins. The procession will be led by the Grand Marshal. All candidates will be grouped by program in the RecPlex on the second floor of the UC. At that time, candidates will each receive a card to write their names as they would like them to be read on stage. The faculty robing area is in the Black Box Theatre on the north side of the UC, directly across from the Alvin Sherman Library. There are no facilities available in the UC for storing purses or other personal items. Please leave these items with your guests. The university is not responsible for items left unattended. Wear comfortable shoes (no tennis shoes or sneakers, please), because you will be on your feet for extended periods of time and will be climbing stairs. LINE OF MARCH When called to the stage for the presentation of candidates for degrees, you will either be directed to the left (toward the university president) or the right (towards the dean). Please follow the directions of the stage attendants to ensure an orderly procession. CEREMONY CLOSING To signify the closing of each ceremony, the president will ask candidates to rise at their seats for the conferral of degrees. Some HPD graduates are required to recite their professional oaths, which can be found in the back of the commencement program. NSU Commencement ceremonies are usually less than two-and-a-half hours in length. At the conclusion of the commencement ceremony, all will stand while the Grand Marshal leads the onstage party from the arena, followed by the faculty and candidates. Guests are asked to remain in their seats until everyone has left the floor and to meet their graduates outside at the Alvin Sherman Library Quad.
