Introduction to
iSelfChange App

This App is intended to give you information about your drinking, and how to evaluate it with respect to risky drinking levels. We have also included some tips for how to change your drinking and when to not drink. Information in this App was used in previous studies and was found to help individuals change their drinking.

Information about drinking levels is shown in different parts of this app. The information includes:

  • Graphs showing how much men and women drink per week. Compare your drinking with other men or women to see where you fit in.
  • A chart showing your score on the AUDIT, a questionnaire that evaluates the extent to which a person’s drinking might be a problem.

The Next Step

This App also includes some additional materials to help you change your drinking.

The first, a brief exercise called Decisional Balance, is intended to help you think about the costs and benefits of changing your drinking, and what is involved in your decision to change. People often find that writing down their reasons for change is helpful.

Completing weekly logs has been found to be useful in helping people change their drinking.

To help you monitor your progress you can track your daily alcohol use and record on a calendar the number of drinks you consumed in each week. If you are a smoker, on the alcohol logs there is a column to also record the number of cigarettes you smoked each day. Monitoring both alcohol and tobacco use may help you change both behaviors, as they often go hand in hand.
