Campus Impact

Charmaine BeckfordThe primary goal of the Office of Risk Management while managing the University’s Workers’ Compensation benefit is to protect students, faculty, and staff from accidents and injuries. Additionally, Risk Management’s efforts involves complying with applicable laws and protecting the University's reputation. There are two general objectives for Workers' Compensation: (1) prevention of injuries or accidents that might result from abnormal operating conditions, and (2) reduction of adverse effects that result from normal operating conditions.

Adhering to Florida statue 440 and other Regulatory requirements plays an important role in both environmental and work area injury/accident prevention, and consequently, the Workers' Compensation Risk Specialist must identify and understand relevant safety regulations to implement suitable measures which includes creating organized efforts and procedures for identifying workplace hazards and reducing accidents and exposures to harmful situations. NSU community of dedicated staff, working jointly and cohesively, are important to ensure success.

Communicating safety initiatives and practices demands full understanding about who is involved in safety. The Campus Impact Program informs all students, faculty and staff about these players. We challenge everyone to get involved in SAFETY! Honorees (individual Units) are listed online at https://www.nova.edu/risk/campus-impact/index.html, while individual honorees are listed at https://www.nova.edu/risk/campus-impact/safety-awards.html and given a token of appreciation for their involvement in making our campus safe.
