Page 36 Parents will be able, through password use only, to access their child’s grades online. Teachers will inform students of the method by which grades are determined. Students at University School are not ranked. GRADUATION DIPLOMAS Seniors must fulfill all graduation requirements and other obligations to University School in order to receive their diplomas at the graduation ceremony. A student missing credit for more than one course will not receive a diploma until the credit has been completed. VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIAN COMPUTATIONS 1. Computations for these awards will be done at the conclusion of the first semester, senior year. 2. To be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian status, a student must receive all of his or her credits from NSU University School during sophomore, junior and senior years. To ensure fairness, transfer students will have grades from previous school calculated into the computations for these awards. 5: GENERAL INFORMATION ON POLICIES AND PROCEDURES EARLY DISMISSAL/TAKING CHILDREN OUT OF SCHOOL: Early dismissals are authorized for emergency purposes only. Students are expected to remain in school for the duration of the school day. All early dismissals must be made BEFORE 2:45 p.m. Students WILL NOT BE DISMISSED between 2:45 p.m. and 3:10 p.m . for safety and operational reasons, unless authorized by the Director. Students may not be released early by the classroom teachers. Any student dismissed early from school may be picked up only by a person authorized by the legal guardian of the child. People picking up a child will be required to produce appropriate identification and sign a checkout form at the Receptionist’s desk. Non-guardian parents or relatives will be permitted to visit or pick up students only when the school has been notified in writing by the guardian parents. Should a guardian conflict exist between parents, the legal guardian must notify the school director in writing of such circumstances. Unless such a letter has been received, it will be assumed that there are no unusual circumstances, and either parent may remove a child during school hours. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND FLYERS Unfortunately, NSU University School may not serve as a vehicle for distribution or solicitation. Advertisements or informational documents may NOT be placed in the Lower School office or lobby area for interested parties to pick up. Opportunities, activities, camps, etc., unless under direct sponsorship of the school, may not be announced via the school. POSTERS AND DECORATIONS Before hanging items on designated bulletin boards, students must have the approval of the appropriate team leader, adviser or administrator. Students may display items in approved locations and using approved attachment materials. Students are responsible for the removal of all such items at the conclusion of the activity. ATHLETIC PROGRAMS 1. Students can participate in school-sponsored sports if they are in attendance at least 4 hours on the day of the game or program. a. Students must comply with the coach’s rules and meet the school’s academic standards. b. Students must adhere to FHSAA rules and regulations. c. International students must provide the necessary FHSAA documentation and required forms to the Athletic Director at least 30 days prior to a student’s play in any sport.
