Extracurricular: Students who are involved in extracurricular field trips will be marked as a non-chargeable absence. Students are responsible for all work missed during a school-related absence. Students must adhere to the deadlines established with each teacher. The conduct expected of a NSU University School student in school is expected of a student on a school trip. A student’s misconduct will lead to disciplinary actions, which may include loss of activities on the trip, altered itinerary, and/or immediate dismissal from the trip. If a child is dismissed from a trip, any additional expenses that result from the dismissal are the parent’s responsibility. If a child is dismissed from a trip, a parent must travel to the location at their expense to pick up their child. The parent is responsible for any financial on the student’s travel ticket and the unused portion of the student field trip is forfeited. 4. If a student’s behavior on a field trip results in any disciplinary action, it is the school’s sole discretion to disallow any participation in subsequent field trips and/or special school sponsored events. START OF THE DAY : Grades JK-5: The earliest that students may arrive at school is 7:30 a.m. Students arriving between 7:30 a.m. and the official start time of the day must report to the appropriate Continuing Services Program area: Early morning care will be offered for junior-kindergarten through Grade 5. Students may not enter classroom areas until after teachers are there to receive and supervise them. All arrivals before 8:05 a.m. must be report to the designated Continuing Care areas. Late Arrivals After the official start of each day, students are required to obtain a late pass before going to class. Arrival any time after the official start of the day will be recorded as “tardy” and a late pass must be secured from the office. All tardies and absences are recorded and documented on student report cards and official records. END OF THE DAY DISMISSAL: Teachers escort and supervise children to car pool locations and supervise them until dismissals have been safely completed. Parent carpool drivers are expected to ADHERE TO THE CARPOOL TRAFFIC PLAN AND PROCEDURES as articulated in this handbook and stay in their cars in the designated carpool lines to meet their children at the respective grade-level exit or carpool stop when the students are dismissed. CLUBS/STUDENT ACTIVITIES Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities as part of their total school program. Student organizations are under the supervision of a faculty sponsor. All social activities, including fund-raising, must be approved by the school director. Holding an office in any club requires that the student maintain a C average in each class. Any student who is on behavioral or academic probation may not hold office or be a student government representative. Clubs are organized throughout the school year in response to student interests. Students interested in helping organize a club should discuss the idea with the student council. All fund-raising and charitable activities must be sponsored by a school club. Students who wish to start a club should ensure that there are no clubs that exist currently that already work to or are designed to achieve the goal of the proposed club. Students must be able to show a need for the club in our school community, and a diverse range of students interested in a club existing. CONFERRING WITH STUDENT When persons outside of the school confer with a student: 1. School staff member must be present (exception: law enforcement and DCF). 2. Law enforcement must identify themselves first.
