70 AT NO TIME is it appropriate for any student to possess or bring a weapon of any kind onto a school campus. Any student who is determined to have possessed or brought a weapon of any kind onto school campus or to any school function, or on any school- sponsored transportation will be recommended for expulsion. To ensure fairness, any student recommended for expulsion due to a violation of the NSU University School’s “Zero Tolerance for Weapons Policy,” will have a right to present mitigating factors to the Executive Committee as set forth in the section titled “Review Process for sanctions that result in expulsion” found in this handbook. INVESTIGATING STUDENT MISCONDUCT The school will investigate reports of the following types of rules regarding student conduct are in effect during the following times and in the following places:  on the school grounds during, and immediately before or immediately after, school hours  on the school grounds at any other time when the school is being used by a school group  at any time on NSU University School or Nova Southeastern University property  off the school grounds at a school-sponsored/sanctioned activity, function or event  en route to and from school or a school activity on a school bus or other school vehicle  at any time or in any place that impacts the school's ability to maintain order and discipline The school may commence an investigation when:  a direct complaint or report is made by any school constituent (student, parent or employee);  it becomes aware of an offence; or  a more senior member of NSU directs them to. Investigating Allegations of Student Misconduct School officials are often called upon to investigate allegations of student misconduct. Officials receive complaints of misconduct from numerous sources – faculty and staff, students, and parents. Investigating these complaints can create complex situations. The purpose of this publication is to identify problem areas and to assist school administrators when conducting investigations of student misconduct.
