38 Twice annually, in the fall and at end of year for summer, the Director must be notified of all tutoring of any US student done for a fee using the required report form in the appendix. Teachers cannot advertise for individual tutoring in any school publication. Any employee wishing to use US or NSU facilities for personal reasons including special events, tutoring, etc., at any time, must have advanced permission from Director and adhere to NSU policies for use of facility. Prior to arranging any private contract with parents for tutoring, faculty must ensure that existing NSU University School programs and supplemental resources have been considered. For example, before agreeing to tutor a student in Math, make sure SASS is not the preferred option. DISCIPLINE POLICIES All student-based behavioral expectations are explained in the Student and Parent Handbook. Teachers are responsible for those policies. DISCIPLINE, CLASSROOM All faculty members have responsibility for the supervision of students in their classes, around the school, during the lunch hour, and before and after school. Specific duty schedules will be developed and shared with faculty so that supervision is consistent at critical places and times. Teachers must be responsible for supervised transport during the school day. Students should NOT be in classrooms, in halls, gym or other areas unattended. Classroom procedures and routines are taught and practiced during the first two weeks of school and as needed throughout the year. Have a plan in place of your expectations and consequences for behavior in your classroom. This should be developed with students. Be consistent; be fair; focus on changing the behavior of the student. Know and use students’ names as soon as possible. Move about the room. Be interested in your students. Be respectful and fair with your students while maintaining order and time on task. The teacher must be in the room at the beginning of and during the entire period. Your presence together with preparation and purposeful, goal-oriented teaching will create and maintain effective discipline. During passing times, be in the hall and greet students by name. Your presence will reinforce respectful behaviors. Teachers must be responsible for supervised student transport during the school day. Teachers of young students need to accompany students to special activities (Media, Spanish, Music, etc.) to offer integration and reinforcement of these skills. Students may not be randomly dismissed from academic classes and sent to specials or other areas without direct supervisory arrangements. Students must be in sight of both the transferring teacher and the receiving teacher when changing classes. All faculty will be expected to share in the coverage of arrival, dismissal, lunch recess or Student/Staff ratios as established by the Broward County Child Care Ordinance require the following at all times:
