CONDUCTING PARENT CONFERENCES Guidance counselors or an administrator are usually available to assist in conducting parent conferences. Whether in that conference setting or in a personal conference with a parent, there are guidelines that should be followed that will help create a positive outcome. These guidelines are listed below: 1. Teachers should come to each conference prepared to provide the parent with important and useful insight regarding their child’s academic performance, attitude, work ethic, motivation, and/or behavior. 2. All communications to parents should be SPECIFIC and DOCUMENTABLE. Present precise examples of academic, social, or behavioral progress that will paint a clear picture in the mind of the parent. TRY TO AVOID USING THIS AS EVIDENCE!! You simply want to make sure that you have more than just your opinion for the parent.
