34 Demonstrate and apply fundamental skills and understanding of technological processes and resources; Show a strong ability to use technological processes and resources for personal research and communication; Understand legal and ethical issues pertaining to use of technological processes and resources, such as how copyright applies to classroom software use, and what additional safety measures may be needed in the classroom; Use technological processes and resources in ways aligned with NSU University School mission with activities that support and enable student engagement and student learning. Teachers acknowledge that the primary mechanism for parent communication and learning management system (LMS) for NSU University School is Blackboard. Teachers need to be aware of specific NSU University School plans for the use of technology, including the NSU University School Strategic Plan (2012-2015),and be accountable for responding to goals, objectives and action plans contained within these documents. COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS Faculty are expected to develop and maintain open lines of communication within the classroom, the school, the home, and the community. Respond to all parent email or telephone calls within 24 hours of receipt. C-/D/F/INCOMPLETE GRADE CALLS TO PARENTS Teachers are expected to contact parents by telephone if a student is receiving a “C-“or lower or “Incomplete" at the mid-term and end of the quarter . Document the call. These calls should be made by the time mid-term reports or report card data are turned in. In the case of an "incomplete" grade, parents should be contacted prior to the closing date for work to be submitted so that they understand what needs to be done and can offer encouragement and support to their student. The date, time, and comments regarding the call should be recorded and filed. POSITIVE CALLS Teachers are encouraged to regularly make positive calls to parents of students who are excelling, working hard, showing improvement in their work, receiving a high or improved test grade, etc. Parents and students are most appreciative of this feedback and such calls are always a pleasure to make! ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES 1. All graded assessments, including tests and quizzes entered as a recorded grade belong to students, and must be returned to them promptly for them to keep, with the exceptions of semester exams and finals.
