All students are expected to give their best effort on their first attempt . However, students who do not master the concepts are required to meet with the teacher for re-teaching opportunities. All students can request a chance to reassess; however, ALL students who make this request must follow the same procedure: 1. Summative assessments are completed after the learning experiences and after one or more formatives have occurred and they usually require students to demonstrate mastery of all the essential understandings, though they can be explored over several different tasks. Summative assessments are not intended as practice, and therefore , are not subject to reassessment. In the process of examining formative measurements and summative assessments, teachers are encouraged to utilize alternative assessments in place of some traditional quizzes and tests. The use of alternative assessments for midterm and/or final exams is also encouraged. POLICY STATEMENT ON RESEARCH PRACTICUMS, THESES, CAPSTONE PROJECTS OR DISSERTATIONS One of the requirements of advanced or graduate study at Nova Southeastern University is the successful application of an applied research study. Research Studies are considered to be valuable assets to the school and its continued improvement. Therefore, teachers who are involved in any type of research study – data collection and analysis should maintain open lines of communication about their studies with the Director. Teachers who are enrolled in graduate study MUST follow these guidelines in accordance with the process. 1. Administrative approval from the Associate Head of Academic Affairs must be acquired prior to any implementation procedures and before you have developed the official Proposal. The Director should also authorize/allow the study to take place be fully aware of your research-based concepts and proposed activities.
