12 FACULTY / STAFF DRESS & PERSONAL APPEARANCE In the belief that faculty and staff dress is important in establishing a professional tone and environment within the school setting, teachers are required to dress in a professional manner each day…should be no less than business casual at all times . Permitted Women: skirts, dresses, or slacks, capris, school uniforms; blouses, tops, sweaters; *closed footwear. * Please note that for safety and hygiene purposes, faculty must wear closed footwear (“open” footwear is not permitted). To clarify this expectation and responsibility, the shoe must cover and protect the foot on top, in the front and on the sides and MUST contain a back support (strap is Ok, closed heel is OK). A semi-open-toed shoe is acceptable provided no more than 3 toes “peep out”. Thus, slip-ons, sandals, and other footwear where more than 20% of your foot is exposed are NOT acceptable. Permitted Men: collared shirts, slacks; closed footwear Jeans/denim pants are permissible on designated days only. Permitted PE: school uniform-style twill/chino shorts; authorized NSU University School athletic apparel. Not Permitted: visible tattoos, facial piercing, non-natural hair color, extreme, uncommon and distracting hair styles; sheer or revealing clothing, tank tops, T-shirts, open footwear. Off-Campus Dress Code: While on field trips, at school sponsored events, or at any time a faculty member is representing NSU NSU University School, unless otherwise specified for a particular event, faculty are expected to adhere to the NSU NSU University School student dress code. This, acceptable NSU NSU University School shirts, shorts, slacks and footwear are appropriate. T-shirts designed specifically for the event in attendance are also acceptable. FACULTY/STAFF COLLEGIALITY Statements that reflect an opinion of others, either personally or professionally, should be kept to oneself. Opinions should NOT be shared or confirmed with colleagues, parents, students, or others. Public statements that criticize colleagues or administration and staff are unacceptable. Should a need for communication arise, involved parties should approach individuals politely and directly in a manner that reflects PROBLEM SOLVING, RESPECT, PROFESSIONALISM and COOPERATION. While each faculty member has a significant professional discretion in academic matters, it is important we uphold community standards with consistency and congruency. FACULTY CERTIFICATION All teaching faculty are required to possess a current Florida teaching certificate appropriate for their area of teaching including 12 hours of semester credit in the field/subject in which they
