7 Orientation Orientation is the foundation of your college experience. You will learn about and connect with NSU resources to help you become successful in the classroom, on campus, and within the Shark community. You will also meet other new students, current students, faculty, and staff. All new undergraduate students at NSU are required to attend orientation. All incoming first-year students will automatically be registered for Orientation, however all incoming students will need to fill out the Orientation questionnaire prior to arriving at https://opinio.nova.edu :443/ opinio/s?s=16853. Contact the Office of Orientation with any questions or concerns related to attendance, travel, or housing accommodations at (954) 262-8050. First-Year and Freshman Orientation It’s your first year out of high school, and as an NSU Shark – there’s a lot to learn about the experiences that await at NSU! Orientation is a two-day event designed to guide you toward a smooth transition to university life as an NSU Shark. While family is not required to attend, there is informative programming for family members, too! Family members can refer to nova.edu/travel/hotels for possible area hotel discounts through NSU’s Travel Office. Freshman Orientation Date August 15 and 16, 2019 Check in on Day 1 begins at 8 a.m. Day 2 concludes at 2 p.m. International students will also attend an additional day of Orientation on Saturday, August 17 (please refer to page 12) . Transfer Orientation Get connected with faculty and staff for an easy transition into the NSU community. This one-day program will familiarize you with all campus resources and opportunities available to you as an NSU Shark. Sign up for one of the Transfer Orientation dates at nova.edu/studentorientation . Transfer Orientation Dates July 18, 2019 August 8, 2019 Student Health Insurance All full-time students are required to have comprehensive health insurance coverage. As a student, you will automatically be enrolled in the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan, and your student account will be charged. If you are insured under another insurance plan, you must opt out of the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan by completing the online waiver (link on next page) . If your waiver is denied and you believe your health insurance coverage meets the waiver requirements, you may submit an appeal by emailing studenthealth@nova.edu . Include your name, NSU ID (N#) and your NSU student email ( @mynsu.nova.edu ) . In order to opt-out of the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan, your insurance must meet the criteria listed below and on the next page: 1. The claims administrator of your insurance plan must be based in the United States with a U.S. telephone number and address for submission of claims 2. The policy is not a traveling policy 3. The plan provides both emergency and non-emergency health care and mental-health benefits within the local NSU campus area Sample Orientation schedules for students and for families can be found online at nova.edu/studentorientation .
