March 23, 2021 | nsucurrent.nova.edu 9 A few weeks back, while scrolling on Tik Tok, I came across this video by a young woman named Mia. On Tik Tok, her handle is @exactlylikethoseothergirls, and honestly, at first, the title seemed fitting. However, her page is filled with motivational videos, step by steps and other random content. In January, she introduced this amazing workout regimen she called The Hot Girl Walk. Now, if you’re anything like me, you are familiar with two-time Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion and her hit songs, “Hot Girl” and “Hot Girl Summer.” Immediately, I was hooked onto every word this fellow female was offering up. She was able to lose weight, but she claims that, without confidence, achieving our goals will be more difficult. The Hot Girl Walk (HGW) consists of a few requirements. First, you need to simply go for a walk, whether that be at a park, on the treadmill or around your yard. It’s not about weight loss, but an internal transformation. You’re only allowed to think about three things while on the HGW: the things that you are grateful for, how hot you are and things that you want to achieve. After working out like this for the better part of two months, I have come to understand the hype. While Mia may tread over four miles on her walks, I usually keep mine under two and incorporate other exercises after to target certain areas. I use this walk time to listen to some great music and understand why I love myself. It is a great lesson in gratitude. I believe that all people should take part in building up their confidence. This is your time to go on a walk and hang out with yourself for a while. Appreciate the ground you are walking on and the body you are in. Being a hot girl is easy, you just got to start believing you are one. For some, praising yourself and calling yourself hot may sound conceited. We are amazing beings who have been through a lot and we deserve to have ourselves in our corner. Frankly, it’s time we shake these outdated beauty standards and start embracing how beautiful we are. Mia links an entire playlist of jams to listen to while you walk. Find it below as well as a few of my favorite picks from the list. “Obsessed” // Mariah Carey “Midnight Sky” // Miley Cyrus “Don’t Start Now” // Dua Lipa Mia’s Tik Tok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ ZMeBCt29n/ Sports Finding Fitness: The Hot Girl Walk Siena Berardi Sports Editor With permission to print from S. Berardi With March comes the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, which is also called March Madness. March Madness is a single-elimination tournament that is played between 68 Division I college basketball teams over seven rounds, and teams can earn a bid to the tournament in two ways. Thirty-two teams will receive a bid from Division I conferences and the rest receive at-large bid invitations. According to the NCAA, “Regardless of how a team performed during the regular season, if they are eligible for postseason play and win their conference tournament, they receive a bid to the NCAA tournament. These teams are known as automatic qualifiers. There are 31 of these in the 2021 season because the Ivy League did not conduct a winter season.” This year’s March Madness will be held in Indiana. The NCAA also states, “Games will be played on two courts inside Lucas Oil Stadium, as well as Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Only one game at a time will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium. Teams will practice at the Indiana Convention Center with multiple courts set up inside the venue.” March Madness games will be broadcasted on TNT, CBS, TBS and TruTV. History of March Madness The first NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament was held in March 1939, with the Oregon Ducks taking the first national title after beating Ohio State 46-33. This first tournament featured only eight teams, but expanded to 16 in 1951, and then to 64 teams by the mid-1980s. This tournament was not called March Madness until CBS sports broadcaster Brent Musburger used the term during the 1982 tournament’s coverage. David Barrett’s “One Shining Moment” became the anthem of March Madness in 1987. Last year was the only year not to have a March Madness champion as the 2019 March Madness and season were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. March Madness 2021 Schedule First Four: Starts March 18 at 4 p.m. First round: Starts March 19 at 12 p.m. and March 20 at 12 p.m. Second round: Starts March 21 at 12 p.m. and March 22 at 12 p.m. Sweet 16: Starts March 27 at 2 p.m. and March 28 at 1 p.m. Elite Eight: Starts March 29 at 7 p.m. and March Madness 2021 Alexander Martinie Opinions Editor With permission to print from Markus Spiske on Unsplash The two started at the Patriots together and soon traveled onto the Bucs’ roster. The two individuals play better together. After Gronk announced his retirement after the 2019 Super Bowl, Gronk was done playing football until he heard the news. When Brady signed onto the Bucs not even hours later, Gronk was convinced to play with his old pal. The two signed onto the Bucs for the 2020-2021 season, and after winning the Super Bowl together in 2020, they decided to stay together. Now, we watch as the two players go into another season for the Bucs. Back and better, we await number eight. In 2000, Tom Brady signed with the New England Patriots, and after 20 years on the team, nine Super Bowls and six victories, he decided to head to his new home in Tampa, Fla to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Just recently, on March 12, Brady decided to extend his contract and play yet another season with them. Brady posted on Instagram with a caption that stated “In pursuit of 8… We’re keeping the band together.” With Brady being the oldest player currently in the NFL, at the age of 43, people expected the man to retire, but fans were more excited to see this chapter of his life stay open. After winning his seventh Super Bowl, he decided to stay, and now, his contract extends past the 2020-2021 season, adding two more years to his career. Die hard Patriots fans were upset watching him leave the team, but those same fans soon turned into Tampa Bay fans. Many individuals cheered for the Patriots solely because Tom Brady was their favorite player. The moment he transferred, it became clear to the public that those fans were not Patriots fans, but Brady fans. Tom Brady is not the kind of guy who demands more money in order to stay. He allowed others that money in order for his team to become better. The morning after Super Bowl 55, he told the press “I am excited for number eight.” There is not a day where Tom Brady doesn’t push his teammates for success. He expects only the best from everyone, and that’s by adding another bowl ring to his fingers. The news that Brady signed on to the Bucs for longer, was followed by his partner in crime, Rob Gronkowski, doing the same. On the Bench Alexander Martinie Opinions Editor He continues to play
