March 9, 2021 | nsucurrent.nova.edu 6 Arts & Entertainment Rating shows from our childhood As young adults, we tend to forget about some of the television shows that had us hooked while we were kids. Even though time has passed and people, fashion trends and children’s television shows have changed, a lot of the shows our generation considers classics have made a reappearance over different streaming services. Why don’t we go back and see if these episodes have stood the test of time? iCarly; Episode 1 iPilot (2007) Rating: 5/10 It is pretty clever that the pilot episode is named “iPilot,” going along with the constant theme of this show’s title. The episode was quite interesting, to say the least. I could not get over the constant yelling and awkward jokes that were made by the “middle school” cast. I didn’t think this episode of iCarly was aimed toward educating, but strictly toward comedic relief -- although the jokes were pretty stale for my taste. I rate this episode a solid 5/10 for still thinking Spencer’s character was just as hilarious as I remember. VICTORiOUS; Episode 1 Pilot (2010) Rating: 8/10 I believe the first episode of every show sets the tone for the rest of the season, and “VICTORiOUS” did just that. I noticed that the capitalization in the title is to emphasize Tori, since she’s the main character. This show has several hidden PG-13 jokes that I definitely did not notice when I was younger. Since this show was based on high school students, I believe the jokes were a bit more appropriate for the targeted audience than the jokes in “iCarly.” I’m giving this episode a rating of 8/10 because of how it kept me engaged throughout the whole 23 minutes. Drake & Josh; Episode 1 - Two Idiots and a Baby (2004) Rating: 9/10 Does anyone else watch Josh Peck as a YouTuber now and remember him just as his character in “Drake & Josh?” Although I didn’t remember much from this show since it’s been years since I last watched it, I found this to be a pretty amusing one. The constant fighting between Megan, who scored the lead role in iCarly later on in her career, and both brothers is just as funny as I remembered it to be. I rate the first episode a 9/10 because I wanted to continue watching the next episode. Rugrats; Episode 1 - Tommy’s First Birthday (1991) Rating: 10/10 How could I not rate a true Nickelodeon classic? Watching “Rugrats” was a great way to end my time rating childhood TV shows. This show automatically made me feel like I was a kid again and reminded me of all the times I would watch this show with my cousins. For this, I’m definitely rating “Rugrats” a 10/10. Children’s television shows are changing rapidly, especially considering how the audience changes with the times -- and the content has to keep up. I think we should all take a step back and relive some of those childhood memories we have through these shows, even if they’re extremely cringy to us now. Happy watching. Pokemon Presents gives players a look at two new titles The latest Pokemon Presents, a virtual conference to show off the latest games and announcements from the Pokemon Company, was hosted on Feb. 26 to celebrate the franchise’s 25 year anniversary. The event started off with a montage dedicated to the past 25 years of the Pokemon franchise. It showed brief video portrayals of each major step in the franchise’s history; from video games, to the popular trading card game, to the movies and television shows and even to mobile games like Pokemon Go. After the introduction montage, the Pokemon Company president and CEO Tsunekazo Ishihara thanked fans for their dedication to the Pokemon franchise. He then introduced Takato Utsunomiya, the chief operating officer at the Pokemon Company. Utsunomiya gave viewers an inside look at the Pokemon franchise’s already announced upcoming game, Pokemon Snap, as well as trailers for two newly announced titles. Here’s a quick recap of everything that was announced during the Pokemon Presents 2021 showcase. New look at the New Pokemon Snap video game Viewers got to take a more in-depth look at the upcoming remake of the classic Pokemon Snap game, originally released in 1999. The new game is slated for release on April 30 and is dubbed “New Pokemon Snap.” The game’s remake is made specifically for Nintendo’s most recent console, the Nintendo Switch. In the game, the player explores different regions full of pokemon and captures different photos of them to use as scientific data to better understand them. The new trailer gave players a look at new tools that were not available in the previous game, such as photo editing tools, a sort of social media platform to share your photos and let other players rate them and more. Remakes of Pokemon Diamond & Pokemon Pearl games announced Many fans were rallying for remakes of the early 2000’s games “Pokemon Diamond” and “Pokemon Pearl,” but hardly anyone believed it would happen. To the loyal fanbase’s surprise, the Pokemon Company announced remakes of the classic games “Pokemon Diamond” and “Pokemon Pearl.” Unlike previous remakes of the main title Pokemon games, these games are not being developed by Game Freak studios, and instead by ILCA Inc., who worked on other Pokemon titles such as “Pokemon Home.” The games are bringing back the original “Pokemon Diamond” and “Pokemon Pearl” game director Junichi Masuda, which was a relief to many fans who were worried about the integrity of the remake by a different studio. The newgames, titled “Pokemon Brilliant Diamond” and “Pokemon Shining Pearl,” are given a general release date of late 2021. New open world Pokemon game announced The Pokemon Company announced a third new title, called “Pokemon Legends: Arceus,” that took many fans by surprise. This game had few details released about it besides the short trailer that was shown during the showcase, but appears to be almost entirely open world, much like one of the first titles announced for the Nintendo Switch, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.” In this new game, players explore a time before Pokemon were domesticated and gain true insight into the lore of the Pokemon world. This game is slated for release in early 2022.
