Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship Natalie Ramirez Carvallo has been a student in the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship since 2017. She completed her B.S.B.A. in Management with Distinction and Honors in 2019 and will be graduating with an M.B.A. in Marketing in 2021. She has served as a student leader in more than a dozen capacities, most recently as president of the Strategic Forum Student Group (SFSG) and a member of the President’s 64 and the HCBE Dean’s Council. NSU holds a special place in her heart. The wealth of meaningful connections she has made surpassed what she dreamt of in a university experience. The most rewarding aspect of her involvement is the ability to give back to her NSU community by encouraging the growth and professional development of business students in the SFSG. Vijay Patel—Halmos College of Arts and Sciences Vijay Patel is a third-year biology and chemistry major in the honors college from Pensacola, Florida. In his time at NSU, his goal was to make an impact where he could. He began his career at NSU as a Shark preview leader and founded NSU’s DECA chapter. From there, he went on to become an orientation coordinator for the next two years, training and mentoring Shark preview leaders. More recently Patel has made an impact as one of the Halmos senators in USGA. He has helped to implement student access to materials needed to enter professional school. He plans to continue his involvement at NSU, and he bleeds Shark blue! Lauren Alexander—Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing Lauren Alexander has been a student of the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing since 2019. She is the president of the Nursing Student Association and vice president of the Nursing Student Government Association. Within the past year, she has initiated multiple service opportunities through the Nursing Student Association. The service initiatives included a Thanksgiving food drive, 100 holiday presents donated to local children, a three-day health education project for disadvantaged youth, donations for the Jack & Jill Children’s Center, promotion of a heart and breast health initiative, the American Heart Association Virtual Heart Walk, and advocacy of multicultural awareness. The ability to make a positive impact in the community and unite people despite their distance was a shining light during this past year. Camelia Craciun—Shepard Broad College of Law Camelia Craciun is a student at the Shepard Broad College of Law, where she was elected by her peers to serve as the president of the Student Bar Association. In her role, Craciun represents the entire student body by working closely with the faculty and the administration. She is also a member of honor organizations such as the NSU Trial Association and Moot Court. Recently, she was also elected by her graduating class to serve as the Commencement Day speaker. Craciun’s passion for helping others and giving back developed when her family immigrated to the United States from Romania. Upon successfully completing The Bar, she intends to practice labor and employment law, where she will fight on behalf of workers to make sure they are kept safe and treated fairly. Henry Hurowitz—NSU University School Henry Hurowitz is a senior at NSU University School. He began there in prekindergarten. His altruistic nature led him to establish FoodEASE, an organization that helps fight hunger while reducing food waste by rescuing fresh, healthy food from hotels, restaurants, and grocers and distributing it in underserved communities. Since its inception, more than 75,000 meals have been served. Hurowitz is particularly proud of serving as CEO of Germ Genie products, a PPE company started pre-COVID, which earned national recognition and multiple awards, including the JA Outstanding Young Business Person Award, Delta Social Impact Award, and New York Stock Exchange Financial Performance Award. He is also an avid lacrosse and chess player, and a Silver Knight nominee in the business category.
