8 | Speech-Language Pathology Students are selected based on • cumulative grade point average (GPA) • prior academic performance • completed application • interview • recommendations To be considered for admissions, all applicants must have • a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university • a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale • 25 hours of guided clinical observation of an ASHA-certified speech- language pathologist • successful completion of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of B- or higher: COURSE NAME SEMESTER HOURS Introduction to Communication Disorders* 3 Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanisms 3 Phonetics 3 Neuroanatomy (a review of normal neuroanatomy)** 3 Speech-Language Development (Normal) 3 Audiology and Aural Rehabilitation*** 3 *This prerequisite is not required for applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. **This course should not be a course in neurogenic rehabilitation. ***3 semester hours of Audiology and 3 semester hours of Aural Rehabilitation will be accepted. ✔ TIPS • Prerequisite courses will only be accepted if successfully completed within the past 10 years of the date of application to the program. • Students are required to successfully complete the four prerequisite courses needed for ASHA certification prior to beginning the graduate program. • Additional information is available online at asha.org/certification/course-content -areas-for-slp-standards .
