Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Campaign Priorities

OUR STUDENTS | $5 MILLION HCNSO students have smoothly made the transition from challenging themselves in the classroom and laboratories at NSU to excelling in professional programs and in the workforce. Through opportunities to participate in outstanding education and innovative research programs, which include sharing practical knowledge with other students, the aim is to attract well-qualified students from around the country and across the globe to learn from our faculty members and researchers. Priorities include: • Undergraduate scholarships for study and research • Graduate scholarships for student research and teaching assistantships • Ph.D. student endowments for education and research OUR RESEARCH | $7 MILLION Students and faculty members at HCNSO conduct research in all of the world's oceans; in health professions settings across the globe; and in the natural sciences of chemistry, physics, biology, and math. We aim to further expand our research activities to develop solutions that address real world problems and issues. From working with the offshore oil and gas industry and mapping the genomes of new species, to conjuring up the latest advances in health and biotech sciences, there is an abundance of new knowledge to discover. Priorities include: • Expanding research in marine, biological, chemical, physical, and mathematical sciences, including studies involving genetic and genomic studies of vertebrates and invertebrates; shark and other animal tracking via satellite tags; bioinformatics; modeling of animals and environments of the deep sea; and coral reef ecosystem, monitoring, assessment, and restoration • Exploring the effects of pollution, including hydrocarbon impacts on animals and ecosystems • Linking marine and health sciences • Furthering ecosystem management driven science OUR FACULTY | $5 MILLION HCNSO faulty members are dedicated to the success of students through the delivery of excellent teaching and scholarship.
