Realizing Potential - Celebrating Faculty and Staff Members' Campaign Giving

30 | REALIZING POTENTIAL Celebration | FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS — Campaign Giving NSU CARES The southern United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and other areas of the Caribbean where NSU students and faculty and staff members live, work, and study experienced unprecedented destruction in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Caring and teamwork took on a stronger meaning thanks to a wonderful outpouring of volunteer efforts to bolster the university’s emergency protocol. NSU staff members accompanied students to a shelter to make sure they stayed safe and fed. Halmos College researchers moved coral nurseries indoors and relocated the green sea turtle, Captain, to a facility out of harm’s way. Others helped gather and deliver more than 6,000 pounds of supplies and cooked hot meals daily for Sharks at NSU’s Puerto Rico Regional Campus. Efforts did not stop there. Keeping in mind the devastating toll from five weeks of flooding, intense winds, and storm surges that were still mounting, the NSU CARES fund was established. More than $25,000 was raised, offering a lifeline to people left reeling from the brutal hurricane season. NSU students, faculty and staff members, alumni, and their families received gift cards to address pressing needs via nsucares@nova.edu . In an otherwise bleak situation, the spirit of One NSU shined through. Thank you to everyone who contributed to NSU’s relief efforts. The NSU Cares Fund is now a permanent program. You may donate to the fund or request support at any time. Visit nova.edu/nsu-cares .
