College of Osteopathic Medicine Campaign Priorities

“Through the faculty at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, I learned the practice of medicine. It was during rural rotations that I found my true passion for caring for the underserved in our community. Through the supportive effort of the clinical coordinators, I expanded that passion to remote indigenous communities across the globe.” —Vicky J. Marsh, D.O. Class of 2012 Board Certified in Family Medicine Fellow in Addiction Medicine | Larkin Community Hospital “During my undergraduate training, I shadowed various physicians, including anatomical pathologists, family doctors, and emergency-room physicians. It was during my experience in the ER where I met a proud NSU graduate, which prompted my interest in osteopathic medicine. His excitement for the D.O. profession was palpable, and his knowledge-base was outstanding. That’s when I decided to attend NSU. After I was extended an early acceptance offer, I immediately said yes to the fantastic opportunity.” —Camilo Ruiz, D.O., FACOI Class of 2007 Co-owner, Choice Physicians of South Florida COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE SUCCESS STORIES “I was drawn to NSU because of the immediate patient-care experiences it provides from day one. I feel now, looking back, that these early experiences with patients, even as a first-year student, helped to shape who I am as a physician today. Most allopathic schools do not offer any patient experience until the third year of medical school, and this bothered me. Also, I am a very hands-on type of learner, and I felt that NSU, and osteopathic medicine as a whole, fit my learning style.” —Tiffany Sizemore-Ruiz, D.O.
